Disney Hints at the Return of This Classic Magic Kingdom Attraction

One classic Walt Disney World attraction has remained closed due to  the construction on the new TRON Lightcycle / Run attraction coming to the Magic Kingdom. Since construction began on the Disney Park’s newest coaster, the Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed to Guests to accommodate work taking taking place along the tracks near Tomorrowland.

It has been a number of months since Disney fans have received any update on the reopening of the Walt Disney World Railroad, but yesterday a new milestone was hit that should indicate a reopening in the near future!

On July 22, 2022, Disney shared that Cast Members who will be working on the Walt Disney World Railroad had begun training! Even Cast Members who had previously worked on the attraction will need to undergo training if they have not worked at the location for a number of months (which certainly applies to the Walt Disney World Railroad as it has been closed since 2019).

The Railroad is a popular attraction among Guests who many enjoy the laid back, classic nature of the attraction, or who have used the ride as a scenic trip around the Park to get from Point A to Point B. When the Railroad is once again open to Guests, it will continue to operate with stations on Main Street, U.S.A., Frontierland, and Fantasyland (near Storybook Circus and the walkway to Tomorrowland).

While the railroad has been closed Guests have periodically been able to take photos up close to one of the steam engines at the Main Street, U.S.A. station. And, while this has been a fun and memorable experience, we certainly can’t wait to hit the rails for another trip around the Park.

Disney’s official description of the attraction reads:

Listen to the clamor of the engine, the chug of the wheels and the call of the whistle aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad.

Ride 1 of 4 meticulously restored, vintage narrow-gauge steam trains—originally built between 1916 and 1928—and enjoy a relaxing 20-minute, 1.5-mile scenic round-trip tour.

No reopening date has been confirmed thus far for the Walt Disney World Railroad, or TRON Lightcycle / Run, but we are expecting another update soon now that Cast Members have begun training, and we will share any news as soon as we know more here on DisneyTips.
