It is hard to imagine after October 1st, 2021 that there is still so much more coming to Walt Disney World in the coming year.  The end of 2021 brought so much with new nighttime shows in both EPCOT and Magic Kingdom, a new daytime show in KiteTails at Disneys’ Animal Kingdom, the launch of Disney Genie, and so much more.  It is exciting to know that the magic doesn’t end there.  There is more coming to Disney World in 2022 and we have a quick list so you don’t miss out when planning your next Disney vacation.

Mears Connect

As we say goodbye to Disney’s Magical Express on December 31st, 2021, we will be saying hello to Mears Connect.  This will be a new transportation option for Guests traveling from Orlando International Airport to a Disney Resort.  Guests are now able to set up this service online. The cost starts at $32 per adult and $27 per child.  This is for a standard, shared experience.  If Guests are wanting an express option, direct access to their Disney Resort, it is $200 for a family of four.  Mears is the company that has worked with Disney in the past to run Magical Express so we hope this new option will be a very similar experience.  It will begin on January 1st, 2022.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

The newest Disney Resort will be opening on March 1st, 2022, but it will be an experience like no other.  Guests can now make reservations for a 2 day stay on board the Starcruiser where they will have an adventure of a lifetime.  This experience will be very much like a cruise experience as Guests will remain onboard except when docked in Batuu for a visit to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  While onboard, Guests will be able to train like a Jedi, participate in stories, and enjoy food from around the galaxy.  We are thrilled for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to begin welcoming Guests onboard this spring and can’t wait to hear all about the adventures.

Guardians of the Galaxy:  Cosmic Rewind

Disney has announced that the newest ride coming to EPCOT will be opening in 2022, although there is not a specific time frame yet for the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.  This indoor coaster will be like nothing Disney has done before.  The new imagined ride will be an omnicoaster meaning the ride vehicle will rotate to make sure riders are facing the action at all times.  With the first reverse launch in Walt Disney World, this new coaster will bring a lot of fun and thrills to EPCOT.  We look forward to when it opens and can’t wait to experience it in 2022.

TRON Light Cycle Run

It has been no secret that Disney has been working on bringing TRON to Magic Kingdom.  We have watched the construction over the last few years and we are excited to see so much progress being made.  Although Disney hasn’t announced an official opening date, we are hopeful that we could see a potential opening in 2022.  The progress looks promising and since Disney had originally hoped to open TRON in 2021 for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary, we suspect they want it to be opened sooner than later as well.  Unlike Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, we can see what TRON will be like as it is coming to Disney World from Shanghai Disneyland.  With a top speed of around 59 mph and shifting light panels throughout, this ride is truly going to be fantastic.

MagicBand+ will debut in 2022 at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The next-generation wearable retains popular features from the original MagicBand and adds new functionality to unlock magical moments throughout Walt Disney World theme parks and resorts. (Disney)

MagicBand+

It is hard to imagine a Disney World vacation without MagicBands.  These interactive bracelets allow Guests to access their Resort rooms, Park entrances, and now Genie+.  Moving forward Guests will have the opportunity to purchase the new MagicBand+  These new bands will come with fun, interactive features such as color-changing lights, haptic and gesture recognition, and the ability to interact with things around the Parks.  That’s right.  The new MagicBand+ will be able to interact with Disney Fab 50 golden statues that can be found around the four Theme Parks as part of Disney’s 50th Anniversary Celebration.  They are also supposed to interact with the firework shows such as Disney Enchantment at Magic Kingdom and Harmonious at EPCOT.  We look forward to what magical features they have!

“Hey Disney” With Amazon’s Alexa

A new virtual assistant will be coming to Disney Resorts in 2022.  “Hey Disney” will be a free service that Guests can use through Amazon’s Alexa.  This new feature will allow Guests to see wait times, Park hours, bus transportation, set alarms and so much more.  We don’t know a lot about this service, but we are interested to see how it will help to improve our experience on our Disney World vacation.

Moana- Journey of Water

EPCOT is going through a great change right now and it is being transformed.  We don’t know a lot about when this transformation will be done, but we are hopeful that the Moana- Journey of Water walk-through experience will be opening in 2022.  This unique experience will allow Guests to interact with water just like Moana does throughout the movie.  This new attraction will be part of the World Nature neighborhood in the reimagined EPCOT.  Guests can currently see what it should be like by visiting the EPCOT Experience.

We are excited that so much is yet to come to Walt Disney World.  2022 is looking like it will be a fantastic time to visit for a magical Disney World vacation.  What are you the most excited about?

About Jennifer Retzlaff

My name is Jennifer Retzlaff and I became a lifelong Disney fan during my first trip to Walt Disney World in 6th grade. From that moment, Disney became a big part of my life. I live in Iowa with my husband and two kids who are growing up too quickly for my liking. I started introducing my love for Disney early to my family with a Disney honeymoon and then trips when our youngest of 18 months. Since then, our family has been to Walt Disney World over five times and we continue to plan and dream for the next trip. I love the magic that Disney brings to people through the theme parks, cruises, adventures and movies they create. As a teacher, I try to bring that magic into my classroom to help kids believe that “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It.” I recently reached a dream of mine as I joined Magic Vacation Planner as a personal travel advisor. With this team, I can now help others plan magical vacations. As a passionate writer, I also have my own blog at magicalvacationsbyjen which is also where you can follow me on instagram for trip reviews along with tips and tricks for your next magical vacation.
