Disney’s newest animated film is making an appearance. Destination D23 took place this past weekend at Walt Disney World. The fan event was a big weekend for The Walt Disney Company as brand-new attractions, entertainment, and experiences were released. During the two-day event filled with surprises, Disney let fans know a new character would join the fun.
Disney’s animated film Wish (2023) is set to be released on November 22, 2023. The main character of Wish is Asha, “a sharp-witted idealist,” as Disney describes. Like many characters in classic Disney films, Asha sets out on an adventure, showing courage and perseverance. Asha, shown in her purple dress, made a debut at Destination D23 for a big announcement.
Disney released a first look of the brand-new character at the event on stage, as seen below on X. Scott Gustin also adds as part of the announcement she will be coming to EPCOT, Disneyland Resort, and Disneyland Paris.

Disney ‘Wish’
Destination D23 was a huge event for new releases for the Parks. During the 9:26 a.m. presentation, news broke about Asha coming to the Parks. While Disney didn’t give further detail, with the film release this November, the character may likely be seen as early as December in the Parks. “Wish is a clear effort on Disney’s part to attempt a return to their conservative and traditional style of telling stories, using a combination of animated styles and focusing on a story reminiscent of Disney’s classic princess movies,” Inside the Magic writes.
The highly anticipated animated film follows Asha after she makes a powerful wish, which is answered by Star, a ball of boundless energy. “Together, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe—the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico—to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen,” Disney details.
The film is projected to pay homage to the Disney classics, with the hope it will be as successful as newer animated films like Frozen (2013). “Disney Animation revealed Frozen favorites Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck are teaming to write the feature,” The Hollywood Reporter writes. With this power team, the hopes are high, and the excitement is, too.
