Disney’s Roots

Available only in theaters, the animated motion picture will return to classic Disney tropes from the past. It will include musical numbers, a talking animal sidekick, characters with magical powers, and a star-studded cast of voice actors.

Movie Posters

Earlier today (July 20) on Twitter, Disney Animation released promotional movie posters for the upcoming film. The first features Asha standing by herself and surrounded by magical twinkling bubbles and stars.

The other poster released is of King Magnifico. Set with a similar background in the image, he stands with a sinister smile and holds a ball/bubble which contains the movie’s title and release date.

Wish (2023) and the Film Industry

Set to hit theaters on November 22, 2023, the Walt Disney Company undoubtedly hopes it will succeed following a year of movies that have yet to perform as well at the box office. This year’s releases, including The Little Mermaid (2023), Guardians of the Galaxy 3 (2023), Elemental (2023), and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023), have not had the amount of success that Disney has been hoping for. Paired with the lackluster performance of last year’s movies, such as Lightyear (2022) and Strange World (2022), the film side of the business is hurting.

In addition, the ongoing writers’ and actor strikes aren’t doing the film industry – or the Walt Disney Company – any favors amid the box office turmoil.

About Steven Wilk

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
