Visiting the Walt Disney World Resort this August? The end of the summer is an exciting time for a Walt Disney World vacation as the crowds begin to lessen with kids gearing up to go back to school and the start of seasonal events.
While it may seem early, August is the start of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in the Magic Kingdom and just one of the months that will continue the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival, which runs through November 19, 2022.
We love the lighter crowds around Disney World, especially toward the end of August, but anything close to an “off-season” typically means refurbishments are on the horizon. If you are heading to Disney this August, these are the refurbishments you need to know about.
In the Magic Kingdom, no new refurbishments are on the calendar for August, but we thought it would be helpful to recap the attractions that remain “temporarily unavailable.” In Fantasyland, Enchanted Tales With Belle remains closed with no reopening date in sight. A Belle character meet and greet is currently located at the attraction instead.
And the Walt Disney World Railroad is still closed due to construction on TRON Lightcycle / Run in Tomorrowland. Disney is making progress gearing up for the reopening of this classic Magic Kingdom attraction, though, so we will be back with an update as soon as we have more details on it.
EPCOT likewise has no new refurbishments to add to the calendar; however, Canada Far & Wide, the CircleVision film located in the Canada Pavilion of World Showcase, is currently closed. The attraction remains closed through at least the end of September with no reopening date confirmed thus far.
In Disney’s Hollywood Studios, For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration will be closing for refurbishment on August 22, 2022. Disney’s official website lists this as a routine refurbishment but we do know that this show will be getting a new twist on its finale for the holiday season this year, so it is possible that work is being done to change the finale ahead of the holidays. For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration will reopen on September 9, 2022.
Disney has confirmed that Fantasmic will return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios “late this year,” with new sequences and characters featured in the popular nighttime spectacular. We do not have a reopening date for Fantasmic so far, so it is unlikely that the show will be back in August, but we will be sure to keep you updated.
Unfortunately, a number of experiences at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that were once listed as “temporarily unavailable” were recently removed from Disney’s app and official website altogether. As such, it is extremely unlikely that Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular, and Jedi Training Academy – Trials of the Temple will reopen in August or ever.
There are no refurbishments or temporary closures at Disney’s Animal Kingdom planned for this August, though permits for construction work were recently filed on one popular attraction, so we will update this post if anything changes.
Outside of Disney’s four theme parks, Blizzard Beach Water Park still has no reopening date announced; however, if you are looking for a fun way to cool off this August, Typhoon Lagoon is open and does not require advance reservations to visit.
Lastly, a few restaurant refurbishments are planned for August, with Kona Cafe at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort undergoing a refurbishment beginning on August 15, 2022. No reopening date has been confirmed so far, but during the closure, Guests will still be able to pick up to-go items from Kona Island.
Narcoossee’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is currently under refurbishment with no reopening date so far. Guests looking to dine at this Resort should look into Citricos, Grand Floridian Cafe, or Victoria & Albert’s (for a splurge). 1900 Park Fare and the Garden View Tea Room remain closed.
We hope this roundup of upcoming refurbishments helps you plan for your next Disney vacation. Have a magical time!
