With summer approaching we all have one thing on our minds, water parks. If you’re making a trip to Disney World this summer, you’ll surely be planning at least a day or two escaping the heat at the Walt Disney World water parks. But unfortunately, there aren’t as many options to choose from when it comes to water parks anymore.
Disney World has seen a few water parks come and go over the years. River Country, a popular Disney World water park, laid abandoned for years until its demolition in 2019. Now we fear that a similar fate may await our beloved Blizzard Beach water park.
Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a permit that could mean long-term refurbishment or changes, or, an entirely new attraction.
It is unclear as of now exactly what the fate of Blizzard Beach will be, but we do know The permit from The Walt Disney Company’s Imagineering Department has indicated the installation of “show items” and included work specifications from Brilliant Fabrication — a creative element installation company. This same company recently worked on the popular new attraction at Walt Disney World Resort: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
It’s possible this may only mean Blizzard Beach is getting a fancy new upgrade complete with water shows perhaps? But it could also mean they have entirely different plans for the site.
If you’re visiting Walt Disney World this summer and are already thinking about the water parks, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon will still be open for the season. However, keep in mind that the water parks are usually the first thing to close when the tropical weather turns rough. There will also be an influx in crowds to Typhoon Lagoon on those extra hot days, so you will want to get to the park early to stake out your spot for the day.
More information on the future of Blizzard Beach is to come as new developments are released.
