Should this Disney Park convert a popular original restaurant into a dining location, or attraction, based on Disney’s Encanto (2021)?
Encanto premiered last year to great success. The film, which follows the story of the magically gifted Columbian Familia Madrigal and their anthropomorphic house, “Casita,” was a hit with Disney fans, particularly those within the Latine community.
In fact, Mirabel Madrigal is so beloved that she made her Entertainment debut in both Southern California and Orlando at the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts to meet-and-greet with Guests.
Moreover, previously released films, such as Coco (2017) set in Mexico on the Day of the Dead, have resonated so much so with the Latine community that the Company has added plenty of elements featuring characters like Mirabel and Coco’s Miguel within Disney California Adventure Park.
And one Disney fan has suggested that Disney take it a step further, by retheming an opening year location around the movie’s fan-favorite Castia. The Wine County Trattoria offers Napa Valley-style dining with a Mediterranean flair. The restaurant replaced a similar dining location in 2001 as part of the former Golden Vine Winery area of Disney California Adventure.
Twitter user @MorganFigge recently posted two side-by-side photos of the Wine County Trattoria and Encanto’s “:”

The photos suggest a possible retheme Disney could implement to bring Encanto Intellectual Property to the Park. Truly, the two do feature similar roofing and a high peaked level. Perhaps Disney could offer Julietta’s arepas instead of the Trattoria’s Italian fare?
One user replied saying the change would be “an immediate improvement,” while a Cast Member noted they would start work at the location and “would love this.” On the other hand, others didn’t take to the idea so quickly. For example, one fan asked, “Should we even call it ‘California’ Adventure anymore then?”
It’s true that after a less than satisfactory response within the Park’s first year of opening back in 2001, Disney took one major complaint to heart: Guests’ views that the second gate lacked any sort of Disney “Magic” compared to the neighboring Disneyland Park.
Since then, the Disneyland Resort has attempted to fill that need through the introduction of more intellectual property in the Park. For example, Paradise Pier becomes Pixar Pier, California Screamin’ becomes the Incredicoaster, while Bugsland and now Avengers Campus replaced the Bountiful Valley Farm section.
While the inclusion of Encanto in Disney California Adventure would contradict the Park’s original theme of sampling the State’s best experiences, it would be a step in the right direction towards representing the real Latine community in California that includes real Columbian Americans. The Walt Disney Company has not stated any plans to refurbish or remove Wine Country Trattoria.
Would you like to see an Encanto restaurant at DCA? Guests visiting Disney California Adventure should be sure to have both valid Park entry and same-day reservations.
