It’s a big day for fans of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World.
Situated on the southern shore of the Seven Seas Lagoon, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has become a beloved Resort Hotel at Disney World. With the Transportation and Ticket Center to the east and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa to the west, the popular Resort has easy transportation access to the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT Disney Parks as well as Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
And now, the Deluxe Disney Resort, located along the Magic Kingdom Monorail loop, is getting some major updates – and a heartbreaking closure.
The Disney Resort is known for its beautiful Polynesian Resort theming, its Great Ceremonial House, Lava Pool, beaches, and views of Magic Kingdom’s fireworks show.
The Resort features multiple dining options, including The Barefoot Pool Bar, Captain Cook’s, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto tiki bar, Kona Cafe, and the famous ‘Ohana all-you-care-to-enjoy Island-style dinner.
And now, it seems the Polynesian is getting a whole new accommodation building. Twitter user @ScottGustin revealed today, March 15, that Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will be getting new villas, with a tribute to the Disney Resort’s recently canceled show:
Disney Vacation Club just announced new villas coming to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort — projected to open in late 2024. The new DVC addition will also pay homage to the Spirit of Aloha show that will not return to the resort.

According to Gustin, the new villas will be located between the Grand Floridan Resort & Spa and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, where a beach is currently located close to Disney’s Wedding Pavilion.
The new Disney Vacation Club villas will feature an infinity-edge pool, with views of Seven Seas Lagoon and the Magic Kingdom Park. At this time, it’s uncertain whether the new Polynesian Resort villas will have new dining options to join ‘Ohana and Kona Cafe.
We’re not sure yet how themed the new side of the Deluxe Resort Hotel will be, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted once Disney releases updates regarding the new villas close to the theme parks at the Walt Disney World Resort.
Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort featured an all-you-can-eat meal with a luau, alongside hula dancers, fire dancing, and an amazing tribute to Polynesian culture.
Fans of the dinner show will be disappointed to hear that the show now resides in Disney history, with Disney canceling the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show as of today, March 15.
Walt Disney World hosted two dinner shows including Spirit of Aloha and Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. While it has been confirmed Spirit of Aloha will not return, we have yet to learn of Hoop-Dee-Doo’s fate. We hope the Cast Members and performers in the famous show can still make magic elsewhere in the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme parks.
It seems the show has been canceled to make way for these new villas at the Walt Disney World Resort. @ScottGustin posted a separate tweet sharing the sad news about the popular dinner show:
Confirmed: Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show will not reopen. It’s permanently closed.

Since its opening in 1971, the Deluxe Resort has seen some major expansions in its lifetime; the first in 1978, with the addition of a longhouse, the Tangaroa Terrace restaurant, and a second pool.
A second update took place in 1985, with the construction of two additional longhouses. On April 1, 2015, the third expansion officially opened, including the new DVC additions, while back in March 2021, Disney revealed exciting Moana themed rooms.
