Disney is facing some backlash after debuting a new trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series, Andor. The Star Wars spinoff premieres on the streaming service next month.
Andor acts as a prequel to Rogue One (2016), which tells the story of Cassian Andor, a thief who turns Rebel spy. Starring Diego Luna, the series focuses on the five years that precede the film’s events.
The cause of the controversy is not what you may expect. The New York Post reports that Disney fans are not bothered by the depiction of a rifle in the trailer. What disturbs them is the fact that the AK-47 appears to be unmodified.
In other words, it doesn’t seem to be enhanced with any Star Wars features to make it fit more seamlessly into the galactic universe. Let’s face it, Disney sets a high bar when it comes to their visual presentation in movies.
Star Wars is iconic in that it draws viewers into an imaginary world that seems to have existed for decades. Disney fans tend to notice what may seem like little details to the general public.
Guests in the comment section of the trailer went to town on producers of Andor, referring to them as lazy and dumb. Others went so far as to criticize the costume design, with people pointing out an apparent lack of creativity for the show.
Star Wars fans have been known to be incredibly vocal about what they expect from Disney. Despite the vast amount of themed movies and spinoffs that have been released, people never seem to be satisfied.
The series includes 12 episodes, which is twice as many as recent shows that have arrived on Disney Plus, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022) and Moon Knight (2022). What do you think of the new Andor trailer?
Do you think Star Wars fans should give the series a chance before ripping it to shreds? Or do you agree with the critics?
