It’s one of Disney’s most beloved areas at its theme parks.

Mickey’s Toontown in Disneyland Park is a fun recreation of Mickey Mouse’s cartoon world, where Guests can meet their favorite characters and visit their homes.

It was initially inspired by “Toontown” from the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit, in which cartoon characters live apart from humans. Guests loved the colorful aesthetics, cartoonish buildings, and insights into Mickey and Minnie’s homes.

It was revealed in 2021 that Toontown will be reimagined completely, and now, we have one last day to enjoy this popular land.

In November 2021, Disney announced that Mickey’s Toontown in Disneyland will receive a giant makeover. The reimagining of Toontown will bring new experiences to families and young children, including new play areas, an anniversary park, and a brand new attraction for Disneyland Resort.

Toontown will see the long-awaited debut of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland in California, as well as a new children’s play area called CenTOONial Park, and a beautiful fountain.

Gadget’s Go Coaster, Goofy’s Playhouse and Donald’s Boat will all also receive major updates. According to Disney, the entire theme of Mickey’s Toontown will include “a vibrant symphony of sights, sounds, and sensations.”

And don’t worry, the reimagined Mickey’s Toontown will still be home to fan-favorite characters including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and Donald Duck!

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will also be added to the reimagined Mickey’s Toontown and will be a replica of the current Walt Disney World attraction that replaced The Great Movie Ride in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Tomorrow, March 9, is the closing day of the classic Toontown as we know and love it. If you’re in the Anaheim area and love Mickey’s Toontown, head to Disneyland Park today to make the most of this cartoon land!

We won’t see any of these changes until its reopening in early 2023. Disney Parks Blog described the transformation in more detail:

Building on the legacy of Mickey’s Toontown, Imagineers are working to create some all-new experiences so families and young children can have more opportunities to play together inside Disneyland park.

The beloved Mickey’s Toontown will transform into a vibrant symphony of sights, sounds, and sensations. Focusing on today’s families with young children, Mickey’s Toontown will feature new play experiences, as well as open, grassy play spaces for everyone to unplug. The land will have landscaping for both spontaneous family play and parental relaxation.

A similar land existed at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World until 2011 and was named Mickey’s Toontown Fair. Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris also has a related land called Toon Studio.

After today, Guests can get their cartoon fix in Fantasyland, as well as at Sleeping Beauty Castle, the Matterhorn, Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, and Dumbo the Flying Elephant.
