Disney Park Quietly Increases Genie+ Cost

On the morning of October 11, 2022, Disneyland Resort quietly made a price adjustment to the once former complimentary line-skipping service, now the upcharge known as Disney Genie+.

When Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort began phased reopening after COVID-19 closures, Disney quickly announced the former complimentary FastPass+ and MaxPass services would no longer be offered.

These services allowed Guests to schedule and skip the line on selection attractions. Instead, Disney rolled out the red carpet to basically the same service, but this time charging Guests to use it.

At Walt Disney World, Genie+ costs $15 per person per day. Before today, Disneyland Resort was $20 per person per day. Now, on the morning of October 11, 2022, reports are flooding in as Disneyland Resort quietly changed its pricing from $20 to $25 per person per day, seemingly overnight.

According to the Disneyland website, “Disney Genie+ service currently starts at $25.00 USD per ticket per day, subject to availability. Prices vary by date.” Note, the statement says “starts at…” meaning Disneyland may vary this rate, depending on crowd size.

The purchase of Genie+ at Disneyland Park allows Guests to skip the standby line and enter via the Lightning Lane on attractions including:

• Autopia
• Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
• Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
• Haunted Mansion
• Indiana JonesTM Adventure
• “it’s a small world”
• Matterhorn Bobsleds
• Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
• Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin
• Space Mountain
• Splash Mountain
• Star Tours – The Adventures Continue

Over at Disney California Adventure Park, Guests purchasing Disney Genie+ can skip the standby line on the following attractions:

• Goofy’s Sky School
• Grizzly River Run
• Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!
• Incredicoaster
• Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!
• Soarin’ Over California
• Toy Story Midway Mania!
• WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure

The two most popular Disneyland Resort attractions, including Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (Disneyland Park) and Radiator Springs Races (Disney California Adventure Park), are not included with Genie+. If Guests prefer to skip the line on these attractions, they can purchase an individual Lightning Lane for a fee that varies depending on the current crowd level.

Keep in mind that Disney Genie+ and individual Lightning Lane purchases are not required for Guests to enjoy attractions. The standby line is still offered on all rides, except for EPCOT’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Disney World’s EPCOT, which is a virtual queue or Lightning Lane admission only.
