Back in 1934, Walt Disney Studios unveiled a brand-new animated short titled The Wise Little Hen as part of the Silly Symphonies series. This cartoon marked the debut of a character who would go on to become one of Disney’s most beloved icons: Donald Duck.
Disney officially celebrates June 9 as Donald Duck’s birthday, even though that wasn’t the technical release date of The Wise Little Hen. While the short first graced the screens at the Carthay Circle Theater on May 3, 1934, it was widely released just a few days later, on June 7, 1934.
