EPCOT Holiday Display Brings Back the Original Figment

Guests visiting EPCOT during the holiday season can catch a glimpse of the original Figment animatronic on display!

Have you ever noticed the holiday displays in the windows of a Disney Park? Maybe you even look forward to the festive fare bedecking the windows within the Disney theme parks, Resorts, and retail districts.

In particular, if you love Disney’s very merry displays, you probably look forward to the Christmas-themed scenes that fill the store windows at EPCOT when the holiday season arrives! Of course, designs in locations like the Creations Shop feature futuristic and colorful elements which pay homage to the Park’s history and look ahead to the future.

However, while this magical transformation may appear to happen with the wave of a wand, in reality, Disney’s Visual Design workshop spends months preparing this special holiday surprise. Beginning the initial development in the summer, visual merchandising Cast Members can spend upwards of six months planning out their designs.

Plus, once the displays are complete, they take two whole weeks to install! What’s more, the honor belongs to a team of just six artistic Cast Members under the authority of Merchandise Presentation Area Manager, Don Schultz, who has this to say:

“The holidays are a visual merchandiser’s big game. We all work together to decorate trees and come up with wild creative concepts, and we usually end up with snow and glitter everywhere.”

Though Schultz and his team maintain the Disney retail window displays all year, the holiday season holds a special place in their hearts. In fact, every night during the holiday installations, the team sneaks into EPCOT hours after it closes to Guests, when not a creature is stirring… (not even Mickey Mouse) in order to set up their special Christmas scenes.

One such design this year honors the 40th Anniversary celebrated at EPCOT Park with a nod to one of its most beloved original attractions: Journey Into Imagination With Figment. For a limited time, Guests can come face to face with the original Figment himself, sporting a celebratory holiday shirt within one of Schutlz’s displays!

Indeed, it’s nice to see the fan-favorite version of this particular attraction getting the recognition it deserves, especially in a way that makes everyone’s day merry and bright! Guests can visit the EPCOT window displays during the International Festival of Holidays with general Park admission and same-day reservation for the Walt Disney World Resort.
