The Secret Place to Make Your Own Disney Popcorn

Tasty treats are obviously part of the Disney experience. You can’t visit any Disney Park worldwide without indulging in Disney snacks. And if you don’t indulge, then it could be said that your Disney vacation isn’t complete!

What comes to mind when you hear ‘Disney snacks?’ Mickey waffles, Mickey Premium Bar, beignets, candy apples, Dole Whip, rice crispy treats… There are so many things you could think of that we’d be here a while if we were to mention them all! But there’s no doubt that you have a favorite. That could even well be one of the packed treats that you can get around the Disney Parks and Resorts. We love to grab a few of those to pack for when the Disney blues have set it, like shortbread biscuits, Goofy’s Candy Co. sweets, and even Minnie Graham Crackers.

There’s one snack in particular, though, that’s a HUGE hit with Disney Guests – popcorn!

Disney Popcorn

Available in many, if not all, of the Disney Parks around the world, this simple treat is always in demand by Guests. Not only is this Disney snack available to purchase from popcorn carts in the Disney theme parks, but it is also available to buy pre-packed so that it’s kept fresh for those Guests wishing to eat it at a later date.

The Walt Disney Company is very much aware of the popularity of popcorn amongst Disney Guests and releases limited edition popcorn ‘buckets’ that have since become a collector’s item. Remember the Figment popcorn bucket and the almighty lines of Guests that were created by its popularity?

It should come as no surprise then that you can actually create your own popcorn at the Walt Disney World Resort. We stumbled across the place to do such a thing by accident but couldn’t resist creating our own flavor to take home with us. Let us share with you where you can also create your own popcorn!

Visit Main Street Confectionery

Sitting at the top of Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom theme park, across from the Main Street, U.S.A. Flag Pole is the Main Street Confectionery store. Guests step inside this old-fashioned candy shop to find all that Disney offers regarding snacks-to-go and delicious sweet treats. Browse the huge counter for fresh snacks, such as character-inspired candy apples and unique Mickey krispie-treats. You can even watch Cast Members creating the delicious treats before purchasing.

Whilst The Chapeau used to be Main Street Confectionery’s neighbor, the recent closure allowed for Main Street Confectionary to be expanded. The Chapeau was previously known to be the place to go for Disney hats and where Guests could have the back of Mickey Mouse ears embroidered. Whilst Guests have to visit Fantasyland now to take advantage of this service, which is offered in Friendship Fare, the expansion of Main Street Confectionery has brought a new service that Guests can utilize in Magic Kingdom – customized popcorn!

The Kernel Kitchen

If you enjoy popcorn, you must pay the Kernel Kitchen a visit. Accessed from inside of Main Street Confectionary or through a door right across from Tony’s Town Square restaurant, it’s a hidden gem!

This is your chance to create your own unique candied popcorn mix. Your experience is completed in 3 steps:

  1. Pick your popcorn
  2. Select a syrup
  3. Combine with candies.

Let a Cast Member know of your choice, then watch them create your candied popcorn mix before serving it up in a vintage-style bag. It’s yours to enjoy right away or take home to enjoy whilst watching a movie or two!

When it comes to popcorn flavors, Guests can choose from butter flavor, caramel, cheddar, or rainbow. A generous helping of your choice of flavor is placed into the mixing tray. The popcorn is then drizzled with plenty of syrup from the choice of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate. Finally, your candies are added, and there are plenty to choose from:

  • M&M’s Peanut
  • M&M’s Peanut Butter

We definitely recommend the two creations that we bought at the Kernel Kettle:

  • caramel popcorn, milk chocolate syrup, M&M’s Milk Chocolate, and TWIX Bar
  • rainbow popcorn, white chocolate syrup, marshmallows, and TWIX Bar

This was such a fun experience to have stumbled upon and one that we can’t wait to enjoy once again! With plenty of choices on offer, you could revisit time and time again and enjoy a new popcorn mix every time. Whilst it isn’t the cheapest popcorn offering available in Walt Disney World, it’s a chance to enjoy popcorn differently. It’s also a neat souvenir to take home, whether it be for you or a popcorn-lover, you know!

Have you created your own candied popcorn mix at the Kernel Kettle yet? If not, be sure to stop by during your next visit to Magic Kingdom.
