Choose the Right Resort

The first way you can have the best trip is by choosing the Walt Disney World Resort hotel that is the best for your family.

It can be easy to want to stay where others do or spend money to stay at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, but if these Resorts don’t meet your family’s needs, they aren’t worth it.

Take time to look into the different Resort categories Disney offers. Value Resorts offer the best choice for your money while keeping you in the Walt Disney World Resort bubble.

Moderate Resorts are a little more expensive but have more amenities for dining and pools. However, they are larger Resorts, so they take a while to get around.

Finally, the Deluxe Resorts cost the most and offer the best amenities, and many allow Guests to walk to one or more of the Theme Parks.

Take time to research which Resort will be the best for your family. By doing this research, you are setting your trip up to be better than your neighbor, who might choose the Resort everyone else is talking about.

Having a Food Plan

Another way you will make your trip better than your neighbor’s is because you will have a plan when it comes to dining.

If you want to experience some of Walt Disney World’s amazing table-service meals throughout the four Theme Parks or any of the Resorts, make sure you are booking those reservations 60 days before your vacation.

Popular locations such as Steakhouse 71, Space 220, and O’hana book up quickly, so you will want to make sure you snag those right away.

If table-service dining isn’t for your family, still make sure you have a plan for getting food. Quick-service locations now use mobile ordering through My Disney Experience, so you will need to be prepared for this system as well.

To eat at your desired meal times, make sure you get on the app early in the morning to select lunch and dinner times.

During busy times such as Christmas and spring break, pick up windows in the Theme Park fill up early, so use time in line during your morning to place an order.

By having a food plan, you will be a step ahead of everyone else and have a much better experience when it comes to food while on vacation.

Understand (as much as possible) Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes

Be a step ahead of your neighbors and others by having a plan when it comes to Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes.

Back in October, Disney launched Disney Genie, and with that free planning service came two paid options Guests can choose to add to their tickets.

Genie+ is $15/day/person and gives Guests access to the Lightning Lane for over 40 attractions throughout the four Parks.

There are rides in each of the four parks that aren’t included in Genie+ but can be purchased al-a-carte. This price ranges between $7 and $15 per ride per person.

Before heading down to Walt Disney World, think about your touring plans and goals for each Park to determine if these purchases will be a reasonable cost for your family.

Although you can add Genie+ and try to purchase Individual Lightning Lanes once you are already in the Park for the day, we don’t recommend this as a good use of these systems.

Be a step ahead of everyone else by going in with a clear plan and what you want to do when it comes to these features and how to use them if you purchase them.

Attractions such as Slinky Dog Dash, Jungle Cruise, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, and Peter Pan’s Flight see their sections go quickly.

Knowing this information ahead of time will allow you to know if you want to use these systems and how to use them most effectively for your family.

Use My Disney Experience

Never has My Disney Experience been more important to a Walt Disney World vacation than now.

This official app for Walt Disney World is for Guests to navigate through their vacation by seeing wait times, making Genie+ reservations, mobile ordering, entering their hotel room, and so much more.

Don’t be like your neighbor who will download the app at the airport on the way down and be super frustrated with it all vacation.

Download the app and take time to navigate it from home. There is so much to offer, and it can be overwhelming, but if you take time at home to check out what it has to offer, you won’t be as frustrated once on vacation.

These are just some of the reasons why you will have a better Walt Disney World vacation than your neighbor will.

Taking time to research and plan makes a huge difference in having an amazing Walt Disney World vacation.

We hope this was helpful and that you have a fantastic trip.

About Jennifer Retzlaff

My name is Jennifer Retzlaff and I became a lifelong Disney fan during my first trip to Walt Disney World in 6th grade. From that moment, Disney became a big part of my life. I live in Iowa with my husband and two kids who are growing up too quickly for my liking. I started introducing my love for Disney early to my family with a Disney honeymoon and then trips when our youngest of 18 months. Since then, our family has been to Walt Disney World over five times and we continue to plan and dream for the next trip. I love the magic that Disney brings to people through the theme parks, cruises, adventures and movies they create. As a teacher, I try to bring that magic into my classroom to help kids believe that “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It.” I recently reached a dream of mine as I joined Magic Vacation Planner as a personal travel advisor. With this team, I can now help others plan magical vacations. As a passionate writer, I also have my own blog at magicalvacationsbyjen which is also where you can follow me on instagram for trip reviews along with tips and tricks for your next magical vacation.
