If you’ve ever wanted to travel to a galaxy far, far away on a budget, then this is the Disney news for you.

We’ve seen the expensive launch of the Disney hotel Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, as well as the costly lightsaber building at Savi’s Workshop and customizable builds at Droid Depot.

Now, though, Star Wars fans have a free experience coming to the Walt Disney World Resort!

Fans of the Lucasfilm Star Wars franchise and its characters Rey, Chewbacca, BB8, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and his Stormtroopers were thrilled when Disney opened its Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land at Disneyland Park in California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.

The land has proven popular with Guests, with Oga’s Cantina, Millenium Falcon – Smuggler’s Run, and the amazing Rise of the Resistance ride all having long wait times and fully-booked reservations.

Now, Disney has revealed a new collaboration with Lucasfilm in the form of an immersive entertainment experience.

Disney Parks Blog revealed the news that Meta Quest, ILMxLAB – Lucasfilm’s virtual entertainment studio – and Disney Parks are bringing the Meta Quest 2 preview of Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge to Disney Springs.

Located at Disney Springs West Side in the former pro-basketball attraction space, the new virtual reality Star Wars experience is set to open from May 2, 2022 through July 21, 2022. The experience will give Disney World Guests a hands-on short preview of ILMxLAB’s full virtual reality experience Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.

The free experience will be open daily at Disney Springs from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm for a limited time. Not only is the attraction free, but Guests who participate will also be considered for giveaways and have the chance to purchase a Meta Quest 2 right onsite.

And on May 4 (dubbed “Star Wars Day”), Guests can even receive a poster showing the Guavian Death Gang cell led by Tara Rashin, who operates on Batuu.

The virtual game expands the world of Batuu like never before! Once inside the Quest 2 headset, Guests will be immersed in sweeping 360 views of the Star Wars galaxy. The adventure takes place on the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost on the planet of Batuu, the land that makes up Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.

The VR story features both new and iconic characters from the Star Wars galaxy. According to Disney:

Gameplay was designed for a variety of players – from Star Wars fans to VR gamers – at home on Quest 2. In Part 1 of this action-adventure experience, you take on the role of a droid repair technician operating near the Outer Rim. When a group of pirates attack and you crash on Batuu, you’ll discover that anyone in the galaxy can become a hero. Then, continue your epic journey with Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge-Last Call, the recently-released expansion. This new add-on gives you the opportunity to expand your virtual reality adventures on the Outer Rim and experience more eras in the Star Wars galaxy.

Reservations are highly recommended. Guests have to see a Meta Quest staff member in person during their visit to Disney Springs and can learn more at DisneySprings.com/MetaQuest.
