For years, The Walt Disney Company has been locked in the center of America’s culture wars. Accusations of a hyper-political workplace and an extreme focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) have dominated headlines, leaving fans and investors wondering what is truly happening inside the House of Mouse.

Now, a recently laid-off 12-year veteran is shedding light on Disney’s internal corporate culture—and revealing that the era of peak DEI is quietly coming to an end.

Josh Daws, a former Lead Software Engineer who worked across Disney platforms like ESPN and ShopDisney, recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to host a candid “Ask Me Anything” thread following his termination. His insights offer a rare, unfiltered look at a massive corporate pivot that he calls a very real “vibe shift.”

The Fall of Disney’s DEI Machine

Disney’s aggressive push into DEI programming became highly visible around 2020, drawing intense criticism from audiences who felt the company was prioritizing activism over family-friendly storytelling. When asked if those heavy-handed policies still rule the workplace, Daws offered a surprising update.

“They’ve toned it down a ton since Trump was elected. The vibe shift is real,” Daws revealed.

He further clarified that the intense corporate focus on diversity “peaked in 2020 and has been in steady decline since then.” For critics and shareholders who have urged Disney to return to a politically neutral, entertainment-first approach, Daws’ testimony is the strongest indicator yet that leadership is finally shifting course behind the scenes.

Inside the “Not-At-All-Secret Gay Agenda”

Perhaps the most infamous moment in Disney’s recent PR struggles was the leaked “Reimagine Tomorrow” internal video, where an animated television executive boasted about her “not-at-all-secret gay agenda” to inject queer elements into children’s programming.

When asked about the most “woke” thing he experienced at the company, Daws confirmed the reality of that leak: “I was in that ‘not-at-all-secret gay agenda’ all-hands.”

However, he quickly pushed back against the online narrative that every Disney employee is part of a radical indoctrination plot. According to Daws, that extreme mindset is driven by a “very small and vocal minority of the company.”

“Most folks just want to make cool stuff,” he explained, painting a picture of an everyday creative and technical workforce overshadowed by the loud activism of a select few executives.

Debunking Sabotage and Looking Forward

Daws also took time to dismantle a popular internet conspiracy: that Disney is intentionally ruining legacy franchises like Star Wars to push a progressive message and punish legacy fans.

“Nah. No one wants to make crap,” he stated bluntly, reminding readers that poor creative decisions and box office flops are the result of standard human error and bad management, not malicious sabotage.

So, if the internal culture is normalizing, why was Daws let go? He pointed to broader tech industry shifts, noted his status as a remote worker, and acknowledged that artificial intelligence likely played a macro-level role in the recent layoffs. He also observed that leadership needs to “make some big moves to instill confidence in the market.”

Despite losing his job after more than a decade of service, Daws walked away without bitterness. When asked about his outlook for the entertainment giant’s future, his response was clear: “Cautiously optimistic. I’m rooting for them. America needs a healthy Disney.”

For fans waiting for the magic to return, this laid-off engineer’s account provides a glimmer of hope. The loud minority is losing its grip, the peak DEI era is fading, and a much-needed cultural reset is officially underway.

  1. I guess that why disney lost Million’s of Dollor’s and we the people that come’s to Disney is paying for there Bu## S**t Mistake.

  2. I’m cautiously optimistic. It would be great to return to a politically neutral story telling. The public is tired of being forced to endure agendas and narratives. Returning to entertainment and storytelling would be most welcomed.
