Amid ongoing complaints about a lack of courtesy among Disney Park guests, one visitor says another ruined their experience on Disneyland Resort’s Space Mountain.

The Issue at Space Mountain

Space Mountain, a cornerstone of the Disney Park landscape, frequently draws long lines as visitors await their turn for a thrilling indoor ride through the stars. Unfortunately, some guests have taken it upon themselves to disrupt what should be an exhilarating experience. For families, especially those with children, encountering rude or entitled behavior can be disheartening, detracting from the magical experience that Disney is known for.

Redditor u/effingthingsucks was on Space Mountain when they noticed another man scrolling TikTok and Japanese social media networks during the ride. The guest used his bright phone on the dark attraction for the entire time, and the language barrier prevented him from understanding the Redditor’s “words and angry tone” when asked to stop.

This is just one of the rising complaints about other guests’ behavior. In the Reddit comments, other Disney Parks fans shared their experiences.

“This happened to us on the Incredicoaster, the guy in front of us had his phone in his hands recording the entire ride and I was terrified the whole time he’d lose grip on it and it would hit my husband in the head,” u/panicbiscuits commented. “Not enjoyable at all. I just don’t understand why anyone would get on a ride and have their phone out the whole time.”

u/Apart-Reference8690 experienced something similar on Pirates of the Caribbean:

“I asked her to turn the flash off, and she ignored me. I was a little bit hangry and then said ‘if you don’t turn off the flash then I’ll throw it in the water.’ She turned it off but it was an awkward and embarrassing rest of the ride. My family was not happy with me.”

The Response from Disney Management

In 2022, Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort responded to complaints about guest behavior with a new “courtesy” policy. It reads:

“Please show common courtesy to fellow Guests and our Cast Members by not using profanity or engaging in unsafe, illegal, disruptive or offensive behavior, jumping lines or saving places in lines for others. For your safety and the safety of others, please refrain from running except in designated areas.”

Notify a Disney cast member if you witness any behavior that breaks Disney’s rules.
