Disney is opening a new themed restaurant this week! In Disneyland Paris, Casa de Coco-Restaurante de Familia is set to open and is inspired by the hit film Coco (2017). Coco is about a boy named Miguel who gets transported on Los Dias de Muertos and meets his family, that has passed away, in pursuit of finding his grandfather. On his adventure, he learns about loyalty, family, and sacrifice.

Miguel and his family are featured in various parts of this newly-themed restaurant. As the film inspired it, Disneyland Paris worked closely with Imagineers and Pixar Animation Studios to get the theme just right. Disneyland Paris is giving fans a sneak peek into the restaurant before doors open this Saturday. Including tool-making shoes, Miguel’s family heritage on display, and more, Guests will feel like they are a part of Coco when dining in.

Miguel’s Statue

A life-size bronze statue of Miguel is the first to welcome Guests when walking through the terrace. Paying homage to the end of the film, Miguel is dressed in mariachi clothing, with his classic songs playing along.

Papel picados

These papel picados were inspired by Mexican tradition featuring floral elements and music. “This Mexican tradition inspired Pixar artists to use papel picados as a way to introduce us to the past of the Rivera family in the movie’s opening scene,” Disney writes.

Alebrijes

The spirit guides played a big role in Coco. In Casa de Coco – Restaurante de Familia, dine near Dante, Miguel’s spirit guide who accompanied him through his journey in the Land of the Dead. This is another Mexican art form that inspired Imagineers.

Hector’s Guitar

It’s clear Disneyland Paris wanted to get this restaurant’s theme right. It features Hector’s guitar and includes pages from his diary, giving an even more authentic feel. For Miguel, music was important. To his family, it was banished. “In la Sala de Música, the crown jewel of Miguel’s rediscovered family’s heritage is proudly displayed among many musical instruments,” Disney details. Finding the truth about the guitar and his family is what brought Miguel’s family that much closer.

Family Photos

Guests can view photos that Miguel and his family displayed on their ofrenda during Día De Los Muertos. Most of the images pay tribute to their family business of shoe-making. “Traditional woven fabrics, shoemaker’s tools, and shoe boxes featuring the family brand proudly showcase the craftsmanship and expertise of the Riveras inherited from Mamá Imelda and the generations that followed,” Disney explains.
