Disney Just Closed This Popular Magic Kingdom Gift Shop

Some of the best gift shops at Walt Disney World can be found at the exits of the Parks’ most popular attractions. Unfortunately for fans of one Tomorrowland ride gift shop, the store is officially closed with no reopening date in sight.

The Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. is the shop that Guests walk through upon exiting Space Mountain, which opened as part of ‘New Tomorrowland’ in 1995. While the shop has lost some of its original components in recent years (such as the arcade that once existed inside), it has remained a popular shopping destination for fans of this iconic Tomorrowland attraction.

With construction moving right along for the shop’s neighbor, the new TRON Lightcycle / Run attraction, the shop is now closed. Guests exiting Space Mountain are being directed out a different route from the ride building, with select merchandise from the store now available to Guests at Big Top Souvenirs in Fantasyland.

When TRON Lightcycle / Run does open, many are speculating that the exit will direct Guests through the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. building just as Space Mountain does. As a result, the shop is under refurbishment likely until the new TRON roller coaster is fully open to Guests visiting this Disney Park.

Also impacted by the construction of TRON Lightcycle / Run is the Walt Disney World Railroad, which when operating, runs behind Space Mountain as the trains make their way around the perimeter of Magic Kingdom Park. Disney has not yet announced an opening date for both TRON Lightcycle / Run and the Walt Disney World Railroad; however, we hope to hear more updates on both attractions soon.

The Walt Disney World Railroad recently began training Cast Members again, so we may receive a reopening update on this classic Magic Kingdom attraction soon. As for TRON Lightcycle / Run, Disney has shared some updates on its construction but has had no opening date. We expect an update on TRON by this year’s D23 Expo.

We will continue to monitor the progress on the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. shop during its closure and hope to be back soon with exciting details of Disney World’s newest Tomorrowland attraction. In the meantime, be sure to check out Big Top Souvenirs during your next trip to the Magic Kingdom for some of your favorite Space Mountain merchandise.
