Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom is home to over a thousand animals consisting of nearly 250 different species. But these animals aren’t only there for Guests’ entertainment. Behind the scenes, Disney Animal Kingdom scientists are constantly conducting research and conservation efforts. These research efforts have even contributed to new discoveries.

For example, did you know that Disney Animal Kingdom scientists discovered two vocalizations in elephants that had never been found before? It’s true! Although the Disney Park may make it seem that the Guests are the priority, the animals are indeed the star of the show!

While visiting, Guests can see the animal residents up close and personal while riding the Kilimanjaro Safaris. This iconic attraction consists of boarding an open-air ride vehicle and traveling across the Disney Park’s close imitation of an African savanna. Animal Kingdom’s African Savanna is made up of 110 acres of land and inhabited by over 30 species, including lions.
