The Walt Disney Company, just like Netflix and other streaming services, is wise to password sharing. However, Disney once had no problem with family and friends sharing passwords and access to the streaming service. But those days are gone now…
In a few weeks, starting in November of 2023, Disney will begin its crackdown.

It’s been a little over a month since Disney had its last earnings call, where Disney CEO Bob Iger expressed that they were looking into ways to prohibit the sharing of accounts.
Bob Iger also noted a “significant” number of password-sharing users and that the company has the technical capability to monitor sign-ins. Does this mean they will start blocking or cancelling accounts?
It’s not clear.

This problem is common in the world of streaming. Many platforms have attempted to stop the act, assuming it will increase their subscriber numbers and overall revenue.
Disney Plus Password Sharing Crackdown
In a recent email sent to Disney Plus subscribers in Canada, the streaming service will be putting an end to the sharing. Although the email was scarce on how they would achieve this, it could be a method similar to Netflix, which uses IP addresses.
The new policy, beginning on November 1, stated the following:
“We’re implementing restrictions on your ability to share your account or login credentials outside of your household.”
Disney defines “household” as “the collection of devices associated with your primary personal residence that are used by the individuals who reside therein.”

“Unless otherwise permitted by your service tier, you may not share your subscription outside of your household. If we determine that you have violated this agreement, we may limit or terminate access to the service and/or take any other steps as permitted by this agreement.”
The Future of Disney Plus
The streaming service is causing a few problems for the company besides Disney plus password sharing. There have also been suggestions that Disney+ may be combined with Hulu (if and when Disney fully purchases Hulu).

Also, some have talked about the entire set setup changing if Disney were to sell off things that aren’t “core.” And Bob Iger has spoken about reducing the amount of output from the studios and focusing more on quality over quantity.
That being said, it is worth noting that many Disney Plus shows have not performed as well as anticipated.
Either way, significant changes will come to Disney Plus over the next year.
Are you ready?
