Why You Should Stay at a Moderate Resort in Disney World

Walt Disney World has three main Resort categories for their on property options for Guests: value, moderate, and deluxe. As you move up in category and price, you have more amenities. We like the moderate Resort category because it offers the perfect in between for us for a Resort stay. Amenities are a little nice, but the price won’t break the bank. Walt Disney World currently has five resorts in the moderate category, all with outstanding themes and beautiful rooms, pools, and dining. Those five are: Disney’s Caribbean BeachDisney’s Coronado Springs ResortFort WildernessPort Orleans Riverside and French Quarter. This is why you should stay at a moderate Resort for your next Walt Disney World vacation.

More Dining

When staying at one of Disney’s moderate resorts, you will find a variety of options when it comes to dining. These options make staying at a moderate a good step up from a value Resort where you will only have a food court and at deluxe resorts where you might only find sit-down options. At Disney’s moderate Resort, you find a combination of both quick service and sit-down meals. The food court is offered if you are looking for something quick, but there are also sit-down dining options if you prefer to be waited on. Each of the moderate resorts offers unique and well themed sit-down meals. Also, don’t overlook the lounges and pool bars either. Banana Cabana, Three Bridges, and Dahlia Lounge are some of the best views and experiences you can have at any Walt Disney World Resort.

Better Pools

It doesn’t matter how many times you go to Disney, your kids will still want to spend most of their time in the pool at the Resort. Because of this, we highly recommend jumping up to a moderate Resort. The pools at Disney’s moderate resorts are also some of the best on property. The main pools are extremely well themed with exciting slides that the whole family will love. You will also find quiet pools spread throughout the Resort, giving families the option to stick closer to their Resort room if they choose to do so. We appreciate how we have options when it comes to swimming at moderate resorts.

Spacious Rooms

The rooms at the moderate resorts are slightly larger than those at the value resorts. This is extremely helpful when it comes to everyone finding their own space within the Resort room. You can also find the majority of the rooms have a separate shower and toilet area from the sink, making getting ready in the morning easier. Many of these moderate rooms have been upgraded, so under the bed storage, more USB ports, and great overall organization makes it easy for the whole family to be together while on vacation.

Transportation

Another great bonus of Disney moderate resorts is the transportation options. Except for Coronado Springs, the other moderate resorts offer additional transportation options beyond the buses. At Caribbean Beach Resort you can take the Skyliner to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. French Quarter, Port Orleans Riverside, and Fort Wilderness all offer boat transportation. Fort Wilderness offers boat transportation to Magic Kingdom where French Quarter and Port Orleans Riverside offer boat transportation to Disney Springs. Having an additional option when it comes to transportation makes moderate resorts a step ahead of values.

Theme

We do love our Disney, but we love the moderates because they aren’t over the top Disney when it comes to the theme. We love the beautiful theming at all moderate resorts and feel truly immersed in it throughout the Resort property. From the amazing entryways to the small details in the Resort rooms, each theme is brought to life throughout the Resort property, allowing Guests to be transported into the theme fully.

Deluxe Experience Without the Price

One of the main reasons we like the bump from value to moderate is we can get some deluxe amenities without paying the full price of a deluxe Resort. We find this in the new Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs more than anywhere else. From the eloquent lobby with a lounge to the high-end dining high up in the tower, Grand Destino offers the feel of luxury without the price tag. If you want to feel like an elite Guest, we highly recommend looking into a stay at Grand Destino at Disney’s Coronado Springs

Fun Activities

Moderate resorts offer additional activities that make it easy to have Resort days during your vacation. Over at Fort Wilderness, during normal times, you can rent bikes, go fishing and even try your skills at archery. Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter offer horse drawn carriage rides as well as live evening music. Make sure always to pick up that Resort guide so you can stay in the know when it comes to activities at the Resort.

These are just a few of the reasons we think you should book a moderate Resort for your next Walt Disney World vacation. You will love the amazing theming, great pools, and dining options throughout the Resort. Don’t miss out on these amazing properties at Walt Disney World.

About Jennifer Retzlaff

My name is Jennifer Retzlaff and I became a lifelong Disney fan during my first trip to Walt Disney World in 6th grade. From that moment, Disney became a big part of my life. I live in Iowa with my husband and two kids who are growing up too quickly for my liking. I started introducing my love for Disney early to my family with a Disney honeymoon and then trips when our youngest of 18 months. Since then, our family has been to Walt Disney World over five times and we continue to plan and dream for the next trip. I love the magic that Disney brings to people through the theme parks, cruises, adventures and movies they create. As a teacher, I try to bring that magic into my classroom to help kids believe that “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It.” I recently reached a dream of mine as I joined Magic Vacation Planner as a personal travel advisor. With this team, I can now help others plan magical vacations. As a passionate writer, I also have my own blog at magicalvacationsbyjen which is also where you can follow me on instagram for trip reviews along with tips and tricks for your next magical vacation.
