It’s truly a magical time to be a millennial with nostalgia for Y2K Disney films! Yesterday, DisneyTips reported the release of information confirming a second sequel to the Princess Diaries films, and now it seems another throwback adaptation is in the works!
Freaky Friday, based on the 1972 book by the late Mary Rodgers, has been adapted by the Walt Disney Studios numerous times. But of their four “Freaky” films, released in 1976, 1995, 2003, and 2018, respectively, there’s clearly one version that holds a special place in many Disney fans’ hearts. Of course, it’s none other than Freaky Friday (2003), starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan!

Many Disney fans hold fond memories of the film from their childhoods and teenage years of the angsty, punk rock daughter who wakes up to find she’s switched bodies with her put-together mom for the day! Obviously, fans would love to see the duo together again on screen.
As many of them are now grown-ups and parents themselves, just like Lohan, there are new opportunities to revisit the story for more personality swaps, wacky antics, and hilarious gags. In fact, according to sources, it seems like their odds are looking good!

What’s more, Curtis recently shared in an interview with Variety that the two leads have already discussed the matter of a Freaky Friday sequel with Disney executives. Says Curtis:
I’m 64 in a week and Lindsay is 36…[A sequel] lends itself so beautifully … we’re both committed to it, and it’s not ours to make. It’s Disney’s to make and I think they’re interested and we’re talking.
Plus, Lindsay Lohan of Mean Girls (2004) fame, brought up this interaction while on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. You can watch the full interview clip below:
The actress notes her excitement at the possibility of a Freaky Friday 2 was so great, she lost focus on set while filming! And many fans feel exactly the same! There’s no word yet if other co-stars such as Chad Michael Murray or Mark Harmon would return.

Luckily, Disney is no stranger to reboots of its classic entertainment and has seen success with both shows such as Raven’s Home (2017) and films like Hocus Pocus (2022). Especially with their Disney+ platform for a potential release, there’s a world of opportunity should Disney decide to go forward with a second Freaky Friday film.
