The extremely popular Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye attraction will close this January according to the Disneyland Park website.
The attraction, which imagines a new installation of the daring archaeologist’s adventures following “an ancient legend” within the temple of Mara, is no stranger to indefinite closures. Of course, this stunning, E-Ticket style attraction within the Adventureland area of the shares space with the Jungle Cruise and the former Tarzan’s Treehouse walk-through, which itself is currently undergoing refurbishment.
As described by the Disneyland Resort, Indiana Jones Adventure invites Guests to:
Follow Indy’s footsteps into the crumbling Temple of the Forbidden Eye past intricate booby traps. Inspect carvings and frescos that tell the story of Mara, a powerful deity who promises great treasures—and vengeance to those foolish enough to gaze into its all-seeing eyes.
Brave Unimaginable Perils
Board a rugged troop transport and enter the Chamber of Destiny. Confront inconceivable dangers, like precarious precipices over molten lava, screaming mummies, swarms of giant insects, spear-throwing wraiths, collapsing bridges, slithering snakes—and a massive rolling boulder.
If you find yourself in jeopardy, only one man is brave enough—or crazy enough—to save you… Dr. Jones!
In fact, the Indiana Jones ride has grown legendary with Disney and Harrison Ford fans alike not just due to its fast-paced thrill, but the intricate theming present in the supposed “cursed temple,” including references to Lucasfilm’s “Club Obi-Wan” and translatable original hieroglyphics. Moreover, the lengthy queue through the jungle and within the temple dig site used to include many functional interactive gags, like a rope Guests could pull on to the worker’s dismay, similar to those found in Disney’s Toontown.
Unfortunately, after 27 years in operation, much of the queue is in disrepair. Not to mention, the ride itself frequently experiences stalls or has to temporarily halt operation on a semi-regular basis.
Likely, this is why will close the Indiana Jones Adventure attraction for refurbishment on January 9, 2023. However, for any worried fans, the ride will reopen much later in the spring of that year, around the same time as the release of the latest Indiana Jones film.
