The Walt Disney Company has been producing movies at a breakneck pace over the past few years. Before the strikes in Hollywood, Disney released The Little Mermaid (2023), Guardians of the Galaxy 3 (2023), Haunted Mansion (2023), Elemental (2023), and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023), among others.

Although many of these have failed to make a massive splash at the box office, Disney hopes to turn things around with its newest animated film.

Disney’s Wish Trailer

This upcoming movie, titled Wish (2023), is one of the most anticipated films of the year for Disney fans. Walt Disney Animation Studios released the first Wish teaser trailer in April and official movie posters for the animated film in July.

However, a new trailer for the upcoming Disney movie has just dropped this week.

The movie is set to take place on the Iberian peninsula in the magical land of Rosas. It follows the story of 17-year-old Asha, her pet goat Valentino, and a wishing star named…Star.

Similar to animated Disney films of the past, it will include classic Disney elements such as original songs, talking animal sidekicks, and characters with magical powers.

The official trailer hints at the movie’s plot. Rosa is a magical land where its ruler, King Magnifico, has the power to grant wishes to its inhabitants. But when Asha wishes on a falling star, the King’s power is threatened. So he sets off to find out who is trying to take away his ability to control wishes.

The list of award-winning talent includes multiple actors and singers.

It includes Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Julia Michaels and Grammy-winning producer/songwriter/musician Benjamin Rice, who wrote the animated film’s new music, including the original song “More For Us.”

The animated film also stars the voice talents of Academy Award-winning actor Ariana DeBose as Asha, Alan Tudyk as the goat Valentino, and Chris Pine as the film’s main villain, King Magnifico.

Disney undoubtedly hopes for a better debut and box office numbers with this than it has seen with other movies this year. In addition to the lukewarm box office returns, the film industry may see issues regarding low returns due to the strikes.

WGA Strike

Since the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes (the latter is ongoing), many movies have seen fewer promotions for each film. In addition, many news stories have been filled with union and strike coverage instead of interviews with stars, cameos on late-night talk shows, or other promotions. Hopefully, this won’t be an issue with Disney’s Wish movie.

The Disney film is set to hit cinemas on November 22, around the Thanksgiving holiday. The Disney movie will be exclusively available in theaters.

About Steven Wilk

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
