Disney’s controversial Disney Genie+ (AKA former complimentary FastPass system) has a new purchasing change Guests should be aware of.
Disney Genie, Disney Genie+, and Lightning Lanes… we know it all can be confusing.

First, Disney Genie is the complementary addition to the My Disney Experience App that was created to help Guests optimize their day in the Park with features such as advice on which attractions to head to next and dining suggestions.
Secondly, Disney Genie+ is similar to the former complimentary FastPass system. Guests can pay $15 per person, per day at Walt Disney World Resort or $20 per person, per day at Disneyland Resort to select attractions they would like to skip the standby line for and instead enter the attraction through the expedited Lightning Lane entrance.

Thirdly… Lightning Lane attractions. These individual Lightning Lane attractions are the most popular attractions in the Park and are NOT part of the Disney Genie+ purchase. Instead, Guests can purchase the a la carte price to skip the standby line on these attractions. Pricing per individual Lightning Lane attraction varies depending on crowd size.
Disney has recently made a new change to the purchasing process of the Disney Genie+ for select ticketed Guests.
If you are buying a one-day ticket to the Parks, you can no longer purchase Disney Genie+ in advance. You will now need to wait for the day of your visit to purchase Disney Genie+ via the My Disney Experience App.
Disney notes with “How to Purchase” Disney Genie+:
- Before Your Visit: May be added to a multi-day ticket or vacation package for the duration of visit. Purchase via Disneyworld.com or authorized travel professionals.
- Same Day of Visit: Available for single-day use for existing ticket holders or Annual Passholders. Purchase via Disney Genie service in the My Disney Experience mobile app.
We aren’t sure why Disney has decided not to allow one-day ticket Guests to purchase Disney Genie+ in advance. Nevertheless, this is one update you’ll want to be aware of as you make Disney Park vacation plans!
