You Should Absolutely Do This at Walt Disney World

As you get ready to head to Walt Disney World, we have some experiences that we think you absolutely need to do while visiting. We know that everyone you’ve talked to about your vacation probably has told you a list of rides, food, and experience that you have to do and it can be overwhelming. We hope our list is a little different and that you will find them a little less stressful and that they will bring some magic to your Walt Disney World vacation.

Scream With Excitement (or fear)

Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

We think that you should absolutely scream out loud while in Walt Disney World.  Toss those hands up in the air and scream like you just don’t care! As you experience some of the thrill rides offered in each of the four Theme Parks, allow yourself to have fun and scream right along with everyone else. As you shoot backward on Expedition Everest or drop in on Tower of Terror, we absolutely think you should scream away!

Eat What You Want

Mickey Ice Cream Bar

Walt Disney World has really stepped up in the treats department in the last few years and we think you should enjoy these delicious treats while you are in the Parks and Resorts. We aren’t suggesting making yourself sick, but allow yourself to eat what you want when on your vacation. Try not to worry about every single calorie or how much every Mickey pretzel costs.  Instead, go into your vacation knowing that you will want some treats and that will be okay.

Along the same lines, if you are wanting to enjoy a fancy sit-down meal, Walt Disney World is absolutely a great place to experience a fantastic meal. Even if you typically don’t go out to eat at home or spend money on table-service meals, if you want to do so in Disney we say do it. What we don’t want is for you to look back at your vacation and wish that you would have taken time to enjoy Steakhouse 71 or had that Dole Whip in Magic Kingdom.

Adjust Your Routine

Now let’s preface this by saying we don’t recommend doing this with children; however, if you are going with teens or adults allow yourself some change in your routine. By this we mean allow yourself to sleep in late and stay out late even if it isn’t your normal routine.  Sometimes a vacation is a great time to allow yourself to go with the flow of the moments.

Don’t feel like you have to stick to your normal routine when you are on vacation. Allow yourself some flexibility to make changes as you go and sleep in if you want to.

Skip the Park

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Pool

We know that the reason most of us head to Walt Disney World on vacation is to experience the Theme Parks, but it is okay to not visit a Theme Park each day of your vacation. Take time during your vacation to Walt Disney World to have an actual vacation. Sit by the pool, relax in the room, watch a movie. You don’t have to be in the Theme Parks each and every minute of the day. Dedicate some time during your vacation for rest and relaxation and you won’t be sorry.

Shop

Even if you aren’t a big shopper, we think that you should take time to walk through a few of the shops while in Walt Disney World. You can choose to experience the big shops such as the newly opened Creations Shop in EPCOT or the Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A.  These stores are great for all things Disney and souvenir-like. Take time to check out some of the specialty stores throughout the Theme Parks as well.  There are some extremely unique shops that you can enjoy walking around.

Cry

Crying it out doesn’t mean we hope that you, or your kids, have a major meltdown during your Walt Disney World vacation, but we do absolutely think crying is acceptable and a must-do during a trip to Walt Disney World. Disney is truly a magical place and it is completely okay to be overtaken by emotions during your vacation.

It might be just walking down Magic Kingdom after years of saving money to make a vacation happen. You might cry when you see your favorite character for the first time. Crying often takes place during the magical evening shows as they bring the music, characters, fireworks, and projections all together to make one fantastic experience. Allow yourself to feel all the emotions during your Walt Disney World vacation.

Act Like A Kid

It is 100% a necessity to act like a kid when you are in Walt Disney World. This was Walt Disney’s whole dream.  To have a place where kids and parents could experience the fun together. It is okay to choose your favorite horse on the carousel or to get messy while eating a Mickey Bar. Walt Disney World is the perfect place to set the world aside for a while and have fun in the magic of it all.

We absolutely think that being a kid is a must on your Walt Disney World vacation. There are a lot of experiences that others might say are absolute must-dos during your Walt Disney World vacation and they might be right.  Seeing the fireworks or meeting Mickey are all amazing experiences that should be done during a Walt Disney World trip.

We hope that these suggestions are a little different than others that you might have seen and that they help you as you plan a wonderful and magical Walt Disney World vacation.

About Jennifer Retzlaff

My name is Jennifer Retzlaff and I became a lifelong Disney fan during my first trip to Walt Disney World in 6th grade. From that moment, Disney became a big part of my life. I live in Iowa with my husband and two kids who are growing up too quickly for my liking. I started introducing my love for Disney early to my family with a Disney honeymoon and then trips when our youngest of 18 months. Since then, our family has been to Walt Disney World over five times and we continue to plan and dream for the next trip. I love the magic that Disney brings to people through the theme parks, cruises, adventures and movies they create. As a teacher, I try to bring that magic into my classroom to help kids believe that “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It.” I recently reached a dream of mine as I joined Magic Vacation Planner as a personal travel advisor. With this team, I can now help others plan magical vacations. As a passionate writer, I also have my own blog at magicalvacationsbyjen which is also where you can follow me on instagram for trip reviews along with tips and tricks for your next magical vacation.
