Character dining is a favorite dining experience for many Guests who visit the Walt Disney World Resort. It provides the perfect mix of delicious food and Disney character interactions, that help to start your day in the best way. Whilst character experiences in the Disney Parks and Resorts had paused, this year has seen the return of many character dining experiences as well as character meet and greets.
The most recent character dining experiences to have returned include: Winnie the Pooh and friends to The Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom; Stitch and friends to ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort; the Disney Princesses to Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in the Norway Pavilion at EPCOT; and Minnie Mouse and friends to Cape May Cafe in Disney’s Beach Club Resort. But whilst most of the character dining experiences have returned, there are still a couple that are missing from the Walt Disney World Resort. The restaurants still missing character dining experiences include:
- 1900 Park Fare in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
- Trattoria Al Forno at Disney’s BoardWalk
Trattoria Al Forno
Located on Disney’s BoardWalk, Trattoria Al Forno is an Italian restaurant that serves breakfast and dinner. It’s a cozy restaurant that celebrates the diversity of Italy, serving cuisine that is inspired by all parts of the country, from Milan to Rome. The full-service restaurant is open for breakfast, from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Dinner is served from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Breakfast options at Trattoria Al Forno include:
- Oak-grilled Steak and Eggs
- Buttermilk Pancakes
- Traditional Pastries
- Sunrise Breakfast Pizza
- Tiramisu-style French Toast
- Caprese Omelet
- Eggs Your Way
- Al Forno Eggs
- Avocado Toast
- Freshly Harvested Fruit Plate
- Florentine Frittata
There is also a selection of sides, as well as create-your-own entrees for younger Guests. Guests are able to get a selection of beverages, including breakfast cocktails.
For dinner, there is plenty of choice for all courses. Appetizers can begin your meal perfectly or could be combined with sides and an entree to share between your party. Entrees include a selection of meat and pasta dishes, as well as pizzas. If you’re partial to traditional Italian desserts such as Tiramisu, Panna Cotta, Affogate a Caffe, and Gelato, then this is the place to enjoy.
Trattoria Al Forno is a great place to dine if you are looking for Italian-inspired cuisine but would prefer not to enter the Disney Parks. It’s a great alternative to Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, especially if you are a Disney Resort Guest in one of the Cresent Lake Resorts and are hoping to not venture too far from your Guest room.
Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast
Prior to March 2020, Guests were able to enjoy breakfast at the restaurant located on Disney’s BoardWalk, in the company of some Disney princesses and princes. Rapunzel and Flynn Rider from Tangled (2010) and Ariel and Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid (1989) joined Guests, providing an exclusive venue to meet with these characters, who otherwise only appear in their couples in the Festival of Fantasy Parade, Fantasmic! or at Halloween or Christmas parties in Magic Kingdom Park.
Guests who dined in Trattoria Al Forno at the Bon Voyage Character Breakfast were treated to a menu that featured dishes inspired by the movies that the characters featured were known from. Items inspired by Tangled included: Tangled Eggs; Tower of Pancakes; and Golden Frittata. Meanwhile, items inspired by The Little Mermaid included: King Triton’s Shipwreck al Forno; Two-Eggs Poached Underwater; Royale Breakfast; and Swimmers Delight. Breakfast began with a selection of pastries, one of which was in the shape of the sun known from Tangled.
Despite being a popular Guest experience, the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast is currently not offered in the Walt Disney World Resort. Additionally, the menu has been replaced with an alternative menu that does not pay tribute to Disney movies or characters.
Will The Experience Return?
The Bon Voyage Breakfast is currently showing as unavailable on the Disney Parks website. Having previously been listed as a character dining location, the restaurant now comes under ‘casual dining’. However, there is hope that it will return as it is listed as ‘temporarily unavailable.’ When it will return though? The Walt Disney Company is keeping us guessing.
Disney’s BoardWalk has, this year, received updates, with further updates still to come to the popular Disney destination located at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn Resort. The BoardWalk Bakery has been transformed into the BoardWalk Deli which offers a range of breakfast sandwiches in addition to a selection of pastries. It’s become the new favorite place to get cannoli and Mickey cinnamon rolls.
We’re also aware that a new cake destination is coming to Disney’s BoardWalk in 2023. What was The ESPN Club is currently undergoing refurbishment to transform the venue into the Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers. When open, this is going to be the place to treat yourself to afternoon tea in a light and sophisticated space.
We wonder if these changes have impacted the return of the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast returning to the shore of Crescent Lake. Will the character dining experience return to Disney’s BoardWalk soon, or will it be replaced with a different experience? Only time will tell.
Are you missing the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast? Is it a Disney experience that is still on your list to try? While we wait for news on the return of the dining experience to the Disney BoardWalk, make sure to check out the others that have returned to Walt Disney World this year.
