Many Disney Park fans are already well aware of Splash Mountain getting an update at Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom Park. This change was primarily due to the original attraction’s connection to the controversial Song of the South.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

The new rethemed water flume ride will be titled Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at both locations. These two rides will open at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort in 2024. However, the official dates have not been confirmed.

Splash Mountain had its final rides on January 2023 at Magic Kingdom Park and May 2023 at Disneyland Park.

The new ride will be themed after The Princess and the Frog (2009). It will follow Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, Mama Odie, and other characters from the movie on a new adventure. Taking place after the events of the animated film, guests will follow along as Princess Tiana prepares for a special celebration.

Instead of a ride through a mountain, the new rethemed attraction will be a journey through a salt mine.

Tiana’s Foods Water Tower

The tree stump that once topped Splash Mountain has been removed, and a water tower has become the new icon.

Above the construction walls, guests can steal a glimpse at the Tiana’s Foods water tower.

The water tower is a few stories tall – perhaps even as high as the mountain’s peak (or salt mine). The barrel at the top of the water tower is decorated with white paint that reads, “Tiana’s Foods.”

The new ride will feature original audio-animatronics based on characters from The Princess and the Frog, including Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, Mama Odie, and the jazz-loving alligator Louis. It will also contain additional Disney characters and original music inspired by the animated film.

Many of the voice actors from the original Disney movie will be reprising their roles for the audio-animatronic voices. The rethemed ride will also have a New Orleans ambiance, including jazz music and reimagined versions of songs from the 2009 animated film.

The new ride will follow the same ride system and track layout as the original Splash Mountain, including the five-story plunge guaranteed to soak riders.

Earlier today (October 11), Walt Disney Imagineering shared some new photos of the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure / Splash Mountain update. The latest images show the mural being painted along the exterior of the repurposed barn. The barn will serve as the main office of Tiana’s new business.

Although some of the reactions on social media have been less than complimentary, we are excited to see what the new ride will look like upon completion. The image is of Magic Kingdom Park’s version of the ride’s queue.

About Steven Wilk

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
