9 Scary Things to See in Walt Disney World

What comes to mind when you hear ‘Walt Disney World’? Cinderella Castle, magic, Disney characters, awesome food, fun attractions, Mickey waffles… The list goes on, right? So when the Walt Disney World Resort is mentioned, you probably don’t think of scary things. That being said, there are actually several creepy and scary things to see around the Disney Parks and Resorts that some would say add to the Disney experience.

Here are the top 9 things to see around Walt Disney World that will give you a scare or send shivers down your spine!

9. The Evil Queen

Being located in the center of Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom Park, you wouldn’t expect Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train to be scary. And for the most part, your expectations are correct. However, somebody is lurking at the end of the ride that may just catch you off guard, especially if you aren’t watching carefully! As you arrive at the end of the Mine Train, you get to witness Snow White and the Dwarfs dancing in the cottage, just like you see in the movie. But, they’re being watched by none other than the Wicked Queen herself, in her Old Hag’s disguise!

8. It’s Tough to be a Bug!

Nestled under the Tree of Life on Discovery Island, this 3D film and the live show allow Guests to experience just what it’s like to be a bug. That may seem quite cool until you realize that there are some surprises for Guests to ‘endure’ throughout the show!

For some Guests, witnessing the reactions of other Guests is enough to make It’s Tough to be a Bug! in Disney’s Animal Kingdom one that they visit time and time again! For those Guests who hate not knowing what’s coming next, it’s a living nightmare! Are you able to see this attraction through, or do you leave just minutes into the experience? How about you just skip this Disney Park attraction instead?

7. Space Mountain

It’s one of the most popular attractions in Magic Kingdom, allowing Guests to experience blasting off into outer space in their very own rocket. Keep your eyes open during this attraction, though, and as you catch glimpses of light around the attraction, you’ll see that there really isn’t very much room as you zip under and through different parts of the track. It might be best to keep your hands down when riding Space Mountain!

Are you an adrenaline junkie? Then you’ll definitely want to experience Space Mountain with the lights on. Whilst some Guests will find this a comfort, especially if it’s their first experience of the attraction, others will find it a little freaky to see just how the ride navigates around the track at a pretty high speed!

6. Creepy dolls in the Germany Pavilion

Wandering World Showcase in EPCOT provides Guests with an insight into different cultures and countries worldwide. The design of the Germany Pavilion replicates a medieval castle and fairy tale Bavarian buildings. A fountain sits at the center of the cobblestoned German Platz, and there is even a clocktower featuring a glockenspiel that chimes on the hour, every hour. But as the clock chimes, the wooden doors open to reveal two dolls. From a distance, they’ll seem sweet; up close, you’ll see just how creepy their faces are!

5. Caesar in The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

Sticking with creepy dolls, there’s an unexpected one to be seen, hidden in the Hollywood Tower Hotel. Guests must be brave enough to experience the entire attraction, though if they wish to see the ventriloquist dummy known as Caesar that sits in the basement awaiting Guests as they reach the end of the ride. Keep a look out for him next time you cross over into the Twilight Zone!

4. BoardWalk Chairs

When it comes to Walt Disney World Resort hotels, you don’t expect to see anything scary. This is certainly true for 21 out of the 22 Disney Resorts in Lake Buena Vista. There is, however, a particularly creepy feature to see at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn Resort.

The main lobby of the Resort is upstairs on the lawn area in front of the BoardWalk boat landing. Inside you will find several homages to Atlantic City and Coney Island that are the inspiration for this Disney Deluxe Resort. Whilst most of the features are fun and insightful to look at, sitting beside the mantel are a couple of ‘Nanny Chairs’ known as Paul and Todd. Whilst the intention of the chairs is to offer a seat to anyone needing it, the faces are a thing of nightmares! We dare you to look them in the eye!

3. Yeti in Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain

The high-speed attraction found in Asia in Disney’s Animal Kingdom takes Guests on an adventure, forward and backward, through icy Himalayan Peaks. Whilst you may think that the scary parts are over once you’ve traveled backward after reaching the end of the track and flew down the steep mountain, the scariest feature of this attraction is still yet to come. Prepare to face the Yeti as he claws toward the track at the end of your train ride!

We understand this may feel pretty tame for those Guests who were lucky enough to experience the Yeti launching towards the track when the attraction first opened. Unfortunately, the weight of him caused him to remain stuck in one position. Instead, he is now lit up with flashing lights as loud roars accompany the ride experience before Expedition Everest Team Members disembark the train.

2. Haunted Mansion

Have you ever been to Magic Kingdom if you haven’t taken a ride in a Doom Bugg through the Haunted Mansion? Disney’s version of a haunted house, located in Liberty Square, is beautifully done, but there are many features that Guests may find particularly creepy. Keep young Guests close when riding this attraction to allow them to see the beauty beyond the really creepy aspects, such as the hanging corpse of Master Gracey, the ax-bearing bride, and the ghouls that pop up from behind gravestones in the graveyard!

1. Carnotaurus in DINOSAUR

Become a paleontologist with a secret mission when experiencing DINOSAUR in DinoLand U.S.A. This attraction allows Guests to travel back in time to rescue a dinosaur before a meteor shower strikes. This Disney’s Animal Kingdom ride is turbulent and involves loud noises. Whilst most of the dinosaurs are rather majestic creatures to see, beware of the Carnotaurus, who will jump out at you at a very unexpected moment. It’s no wonder the ride attraction photo is taken at this point!
