Reasons We’d Rather Be at Walt Disney World

No matter where you call home, no matter how amazing your “real life” is, true Disney fans would always rather be in the most magical place on Earth.  In fact, you might even have a t-shirt or license plate that declares just that.

But what exactly is it about Walt Disney World that has captivated millions of Guests, young and young at heart?  Why do we yearn to book our next trip before our flight home has left the tarmac?  Here are just a few of the top reasons we’d rather be in Walt Disney World, but needless to say, there are many, many more where these came from!

The Nostalgia Factor

Sure, we could take a vacation anywhere in the world, but we keep returning to Walt Disney World in large part because of the nostalgia factor. Nostalgia sells, and Disney knows it!

There’s something incredibly comforting about coming to Magic Kingdom and riding Pirates of the Caribbean or Haunted Mansion or Jungle Cruise just as you did when you were a kid, and then sharing those experiences with your own children, if you have them (though no shame if you’re enjoying a Disney trip without kids – we’ve done that happily for years!). The nostalgia of these familiar, classic experiences is like a big ol’ hug, and it can make you feel like a kid again, which is perhaps the best thing about Walt Disney World.

Weather

We always book our Walt Disney World trips in spring, fall or winter so we can leave behind the snowy, rainy, windy, or cold weather for that glorious Florida sunshine.  Of course, it’s not always sunny and warm in Florida, as any Guest who has been caught in a sudden Orlando rainstorm will know!

But we know for certain that our time in WDW will be sunnier and warmer than any weather we’d get back home at the same time of year.  There’s nothing like going for a swim in our Disney Resort Hotel pool in the middle of October, or February, or even May, to reinforce the idea that vacation has begun!

Unplug

If you’re anything like us, you might feel like your spouse or your kids converse more with their phones than they do with the rest of the family.  Maybe you’re guilty of the same thing – after all, our lives have become increasingly digital over the past few years.  But all of that scrolling, texting, video game playing, and posting can take a toll on interpersonal relationships.

So if you’re feeling like you’re missing out on life (you know, that thing beyond your phone screen), Walt Disney World is a perfect chance to escape and engage with your surroundings.  We find our screen time decreases dramatically in WDW, because who wants to text when you could be marveling at the wonder of Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Castle, or screaming in terror and delight as you plummet 13 stories in The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Park?

Ride in Style

I don’t mind driving (except in winter).  But there’s something so wonderfully relaxing about turning over the reins to Disney!  Walt Disney World offers so many fabulous transportation options to get Guests to the theme parks, Disney Springs, and Disney Resort Hotels – and they’re all complimentary.

We love hopping on a monorail, gondola, water taxi, or even a bus, and leaving the driving to someone else for a change.  And the best part?  Many Disney modes of transportation feel like attractions in and of themselves.

Peaceful boat ride down the Sassagoula River? Check. Scenic monorail ride to check out other Disney Resorts?  You bet.  Bird’s eye view of WDW property by way of super fun character Disney Skyliner?  Yes, please!

No Cooking

If you really want to, you can book a Disney Deluxe Villa with a full kitchen so that you can cook your own meals during your stay at Walt Disney World.  But personally, one of the reasons we’d rather be at WDW is that no one has to cook!

Whether you want a fast, inexpensive bite at a quick-service restaurant or you want to linger over a 3-course meal at a table service restaurant, there are excellent dining options at Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme parks, at Disney Springs, and at Disney Resort Hotels.

Disney Service

Ahhh, that legendary Disney service.  There’s just nothing that can compare with it.  We’ve traveled the world, and have never found a level of customer service that approached what we’ve found on Walt Disney World property.  Cast Members aim to make every Guest’s experience as magical as possible, and they’ll go out of their way to make sure they’re taken care of and feel like Disney royalty.

At its core, Disney is about making people happy, and excellent customer service is a big part of that.  Whether your child lost a favorite toy, or you need to consult with a chef to create a custom meal that caters to your dietary restrictions, or you need help creating the perfect wedding proposal, Cast Members are there to step in and save the day!

Bottom Line

There are so many reasons we’d rather be in Walt Disney World every minute of every day that we could never include them all in any article.  But it all boils down to escaping reality to a place that dreams are made of.  We love leaving our often tedious lives behind if only for a week, to enter a magical land where we feel like VIPS, where laughter and excitement and discovery are all on the daily agenda, and where we feel like family.
