It’s many Walt Disney World Guests’ dream experience – to get evacuated from a Disney attraction and see a backstage area.
From the amazing Imagineering of Haunted Mansion and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance to the incredible design of Kilimanjaro Safaris and Pandora: World of Avatar, there are multiple attractions we’d love to get stuck on at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
But one group of Guests got an unlikely breakdown this week when their Tower of Terror experience truly became one of “terror”.
Popular attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Frozen Ever After in EPCOT are often reported to break down, with the immersive technology that makes the Star Wars attraction so unique often causing major issues for Guests.
Disney Guests have been expressing concern at glitches on the My Disney Experience app, as well as the frustrating issues regarding Disney CEO Bob Chapek’s new Disney Genie service and the new Park Pass Reservation system.
One ride, however, that many Guests wouldn’t want to break down is The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. The attraction first opened back in 1994 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, then named Disney-MGM Studios, and has brought thousands of screams to the Walt Disney World Park ever since.
The famous Disney Park icon is one of the tallest structures at the Walt Disney World Resort, towering at 199 feet high – second only to Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which is taller by 0.5 feet. And one group of Guests got stuck at the highest point of the ride this week, for over 30 minutes!

The TikTok video, shared by @skysky232, shows one unlucky ride vehicle getting stuck at the highest point of the drop, right inside the elevator shaft.
The apprehension must have been unbearable, waiting to see if you’d suddenly drop as you look over the whole Disney’s Hollywood Studios Park from up high.
And don’t worry, the elevator didn’t suddenly drop! The Disney Guest revealed that Disney Cast Members “slowly lowered us. They couldn’t fix the issue while we were on it. It was closed for a while once we were let off”.
We know we’d be half excited, half terrified to be stuck that long dangling on the beloved Disney thrill ride! Thankfully, the Guests didn’t have to suffer a sudden drop or have to walk down multiple flights of stairs to evacuate the attraction.
The attraction itself has many versions across Disney theme parks, but all feature the terrifying elevator drop. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, the Hollywood Tower Hotel is located in Sunset Boulevard and takes Guests through a spooky preshow in the library to the service elevators.
Guests at Tokyo DisneySea and Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris also enjoy different versions of the attraction, while in Disney’s California Adventure, the attraction saw a recent refurbishment into Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! with stars like Chris Pratt and Bradley Cooper reprising their famous MCU roles.
We’ve seen some crazy evacuations lately at Walt Disney World, including a backstage one at Kilimanjaro Safaris, and one with ladders at Peter Pan’s Flight in Magic Kingdom Park.
